Producing Artistic Director

BUD MARTIN is now in his second season as Producing Artistic Director for Act II Playhouse. Since joining Act II in April 2008, he has directed the new musical Married Alive, Magnetic North, the record-breaking Respect: A Musical Journey of Women, (currently running at Society Hill Playhouse in Philadelphia), On Golden Pond, and The Story of My Life.  He graduated from DeSales University and received his M.A. in Theatre from Villanova University.  He taught theatre in high school, college and graduate school before embarking on a professional producing and directing career in 1978.   He produced and directed Off-Broadway, national tours, and regional theatre before entering the world of corporate finance in 1982.  In April 2008, he retired as the Chairman of I-trax, Inc., a public company in the healthcare industry, after its acquisition by Walgreens.  He was inducted into the Ernst and Young ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ Hall of Fame in 2006. Just prior to Act II, Martin produced and directed Michael Friel’s The Children of Fatima  for Theatre Catalyst and George Stiles’ (Honk!, Tom Jones, Mary Poppins) new musical adventure, The Three Musketeers, at Chicago Shakespeare and North Shore Music Theatres.  He is now preparing it for production in London for Christmas, 2010.  In the last year on Broadway, he co-produced Dolly Parton’s new musical 9 to 5, The Story of My Life, and  Burn the Floor, and on London’s West End, the huge hit Legally Blonde, the Musical.   This summer and fall (2010), he will be co-producing the Broadway transfer of the new Donald Margulies play, Time Stands Still, starring Laura Linney, and both the West End and Broadway productions of La Bete, starring Mark Rylance and David Hyde Pearce.    He is working on a number of new projects, including the Broadway production of the recent Act II world premiere of Any Given Monday by Bruce Graham.  Contact Bud

HARRIET POWER is Associate Artistic Director of Act II Playhouse and also a Professor of Theatre at Villanova University, where she teaches directing and acting. She has devoted much of her professional directing and dramaturgy career to play development, working with new plays and playwrights at New Dramatists (New York), Philadelphia’s PlayPenn, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, West Coast Playwrights, Iowa Playwrights Festival, and the International Women Playwrights Festival. Recently, she directed Act II’s sold-out hit Boeing-Boeing and the best new play she’s ever directed, Bruce Graham’s Any Given Monday. At Act II, she has also directed James Still’s Iron Kisses, the world premiere of Jeff Baron’s Brothers-in-Law, and the Barrymore-nominated Syncopation. Among her many directing credits, favorites include Donald Margulies’ Dinner With Friends in Rome, Italy at Teatro L'Arciliuto, coproduced by The English Theatre of Rome and the American Embassy (winner of “Best of Rome” citation in Trova Roma); A Moon for the Misbegotten and Mad Forest (Venture Theatre), and two world premieres at InterAct Theatre, both by Seth Rozin - Reinventing Eden and Missing Link (Barrymore nomination, Outstanding New Play). She is looking forward to directing the first-ever Shakespeare at Act II, The Tempest, followed by the first-ever American production of Sebastian Barry’s powerful Irish drama The Pride of Parnell Street.  Other upcoming directing: Jen Child’s Why I’m Scared of Dance by Jen Childs for 1812 Productions, and Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, her 19th production at Villanova. A three-time Barrymore “Outstanding Direction of a Play” nominee, she received the 1997 Barrymore award with James J. Christy for Angels in America: Perestroika. Managing Director

Pam DicklerPAM DICKLER, originally from Bucks County, PA, has spent much of the past two decades as part of Chicago’s thriving theatrical community as a producer, director, actor and writer. As Founding Managing Director of Terrapin Theatre, she produced 10 seasons, which included such award-winning productions as Blue Remembered Hills (After Dark award, Best Production), Stags and Hens (Best Ensemble), and Aunt Dan and Lemon (Best Ensemble, of which she was a member). As Producer/Director, Ms. Dickler worked with Tony-nominee Herb Schapiro, helping to shape his world premiere of The Love Song of Saul Alinsky, which included panel discussions with such luminaries as (then) Senator Barack Obama and Monsignor Jack Egan. Commercially, Ms. Dickler managed the long-running hits Do the White Thing, Always…Patsy Cline and Menopause the Musical. As a writer her plays include Promising, produced in 2009 as part of New York’s Metropolitan Playhouse’s East Village Festival; Philbert Eats a Nut and Someone Has to Die Tonight, Indeed He Does, selected for Stage Left Theatre’s DrekFest 2009 at ComedySportz; and a children’s musical, The Little Turtle, a parable on homelessness. Pam was also a contributing writer for The Arab-Israeli Comedy Hour at Chicago’s iO (formerly ImprovOlympic). As Managing Director of the Chernin Center of the Arts, she worked with Artistic Director Ifa Bayeza to build a thriving arts center with two theaters, music studio, computer lab, and more. Their work was cited for excellence by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Chicago Arts & Business Council, and Mayor Richard Daley. They continued their work together by founding DBA Studios in 2004, a company that creates new and provocative theatrical work, encouraging dialogue among races, cultures, and people. Ms. Dickler received her BFA from Syracuse University, where she served on the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ inaugural Advisory Board (2000–2004).

General Manager

MELISSA ZIMMERMAN oversees all operations at the Playhouse including managing the facility and staff, book-keeping and maintaining overall operating budget. Her near decade of administrative experience has improved office functionality. Melissa is no stranger to Act II, having worked in previous seasons as Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) and Audience Services Director. Melissa graduated from Arcadia University in 2005 with a BFA in Acting - which included one semester in London at Middlesex University.  Contact Melissa

KIM REILLY joined the staff at Act II Playhouse in January of 2010. Kimberly brings with her several years of experience in non-profit arts management, having worked previously with Villanova Theatre, Theatre Horizon, and The Devon Theater.  Kimberly earned her Master's Degree in Theatre from Villanova University in May of 2009.  While at Villanova, Kimberly focused her course of study on non-profit arts leadership, marketing, development & public relations.  Kimberly also received a dual B.A. from Villanova in Honors Interdisciplinary Studies and Philosophy, earning Minors in Spanish and Sociology and a Concentration in Peace & Justice Studies.   Kimberly is thrilled to have the opportunity to do what she loves at Act II while helping to propagate a love for the performing arts in and around Philadelphia.

ROE DeLUCA oversees Act II's print, web, publicity and social media initiatives as well as grantwriting, corporate support and other key Development initiatives. Roe received dual B.A. degrees in journalism and political science from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.  She worked for nine years as a freelance corporate marketing writer before joining Act II in August 2004.  Roe proudly serves on the Board of Ambler Main Street and oversees community outreach with Act II's Donated Dress Rehearsal program, which opens the final dress rehearsal of each performance to the public, with donations going to an area charity relating to the theme of the play. She and Philadelphia actor Pete Pryor have also created a drama outreach program for children with autism. The program - called STAGES - piloted in the summer of 2008.

Production Stage Manager

MARGIE PRICE has been the stage manager at Act II Playhouse since December 2002. She counts Mary's Wedding, The Big Bang, Good Evening, Almost, Maine, Songs for a New World, and Iron Kisses among her favorite productions. Regional credits include: Doug Wright’s Not Suitable For Children (McCarter Theatre), Enter the Guardsman (New Jersey Shakespeare Festival), Shirley Valentine with Elaine Bromka (George Street Playhouse), and Tom Gibbons’ 6221 (InterAct).  She is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and was its Philadelphia Liaison from May 2005 – January 2007.  Margie is a Past-Chair and the Philadelphia Regional Rep for the Stage Managers’ Association (www.stagemanagers.org).  Contact Margie
