Audience Connects with MAGNETIC NORTH
Welcome to our new blog! It’s Election Day, and Act II Playhouse is in the middle of our second show of the season, MAGNETIC NORTH by William Donnelly. The play explores intimacy and temptation with warmth and clarity - and uses humor to solidify the message.
One of the wonderful surprises in MAGNETIC NORTH is what is revealed through the character of Emmett, who works with James and consoles James’ wife, Leigh. Paul Felder is delightful in this role, lightening the play with moments of pure comedic joy while also providing sage advice, which critics and audience members alike are finding irresistible.
This lovely 75-minute drama is attracting a positive connection with our audience. Talkbacks were held after the first two preview performances, and one patron who was too shy to speak emailed us to say: “I am not one who can talk out in a group so just wanted to give you my feed back by e-mail. When the play ended and the lights went out, I felt hopeful that everything would work out between James and Leigh [the husband and wife, played by real-life couple Sarah Shahinian and Brad Heikes].” Christie Parker is fabulous as the alluring former girlfriend, Mara.
